SOP

J1 autism-support morning routine SOP

A repeatable morning routine procedure designed to reduce rushing, support regulation, and improve school transitions in an in-home autism-support setting.

Purpose

Create a calmer, earlier, and more predictable morning flow so the child can leave for school in a more regulated state and the parent can begin work with less chaos.

Trigger

Use this SOP on all school mornings and any other high-pressure departure mornings.

Key rule

Start the routine 15 minutes earlier than the previous baseline when mornings are still feeling rushed.

Expected outcomes

  • less rushing
  • fewer high-intensity prompts
  • smoother departure timing
  • less parent step-in during the morning window

Procedure

  1. Begin with a low-demand preparation window before the main routine starts.
  2. Use the same visual sequence in the same order each school morning.
  3. Give the 10-minute and 5-minute warning using the same language each day.
  4. Use one preselected regulation support option before the departure transition if early signs of overload appear.
  5. Keep spoken instructions short, concrete, and calm.
  6. Send a high-signal update only if there was a meaningful issue, notable success, or care-team-relevant observation.

What to document

  • start time used
  • transition quality
  • prompt intensity needed
  • regulation support used
  • departure timing

Validation path

Review 10 school days for smoother departure timing, fewer intense prompts, and lower parent step-in frequency.
